Beaufort County Crime Stoppers

Beaufort County Crime Stoppers is a community based organization dedicated to solving and preventing serious crime in partnership with citizens, media, law enforcement, and the criminal justice system in the Beaufort County area.  The program was started in 1996 by the Washington Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce and the Washington Evening Rotary Club.  It quickly became a great tool in helping law enforcement solve felony crimes.

Beaufort County Crime Prevention Program

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office will assist in organizing Crime Prevention Groups in residential and business programs. These programs are available free of charge to the public. The Sheriff’s Office provides information, and services to local Communities, Churches, Businesses, Schools, Civic Organizations, Private Citizens, and Groups. This is accomplished by private demonstrations, displays, distribution of literature, and group meetings. The Crime Prevention Officers mission is to increase public awareness, and gain community involvement through:

CareTrak Program

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with North Carolina Project Lifesaver to provide a unique safety and protection program for certain county residents with special needs.  This program utilizes radio technology and specially trained deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and with Project Lifesaver to conduct search and rescue for missing persons who wander away from assisted living facilities or suffer from Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Downs Syndrome, Autism and mental disorders.  Assistance is provided to the very young and the elderly by utilizing a small wristband transmitter that can be tracked by law enforcement whenever an individual is missing or wanders from care givers.  The Sheriff’s Office is prepared to respond, track and rescue 24 hours a day with back up from North Carolina Project Lifesaver personnel.  This includes a specialized K9 search team.

Beaufort County D.A.R.E. Program

DARE stands for Drug, Abuse, Resistance, Education, the D.A.R.E. curriculum is designed to be taught by deputy sheriffs whose training and experience give them the knowledge and skills necessary to answer the sophisticated questions often posed by young students about drugs and crime. Prior to teaching the D.A.R.E. program, deputies undergo 80 hours of special training in areas such as child development, classroom management, teaching techniques, and communication skills.  D.A.R.E. goes beyond traditional drug abuse and violence prevention programs because it gives children the skills needed to recognize and resist the subtle and overt pressures that cause them to experiment with drugs or become involved in gangs or violent activities. The DARE program has been in existence with the Sheriff’s Office for over 15 years and has been an important part of our agency.

In addition to teaching DARE, our deputies routinely at the request of churches or other youth related organizations, give presentation throughout our county to help educate the public regarding the dangers of drugs and violence that children sometimes get involved in and to offer solutions to questions that might arise.  Although our agency is small in comparison to other cities and municipalities, our objective is clear, to instruct and educate our children to make wise and positive decisions regarding drugs and violence and most importantly, to protect our most precious resource…our children

G.R.E.A.T.

The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. With prevention as its primary objective, the program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership.

G.R.E.A.T. lessons focus on providing life skills to students to help them avoid using delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems. The G.R.E.A.T. Program offers a continuum of components for students and their families.

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Chaplain

A Chaplain can be one of the most important members of the Sheriff’s Office.  Today, more than ever, law enforcement agencies need religious guidance, counseling, and assistance for law enforcement professionals, their families, and the communities they serve. Clergy are trained to fill this need.  No one is confronted with more situations that can demoralize and create emotional, mental, and spiritual burdens than the law enforcement professional. The Deputy’s own clergy, or religious advisor, although trained in the ministry, is not necessarily attuned to the particular problems inherent with a law enforcement career.  In such cases, a Sheriff’s Chaplain, aware of the stresses placed upon this individual, could listen with empathy, advise calmly, and offer assistance when such assistance is appropriate.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event.  This years Relay was held on May  3rd & 4th at the Washington High School track.  The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office participated for the 17th straight year.  The Sheriff’s Office team, “The Shining Stars” raised over $1,600.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.

tft

The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation's most valuable natural resources - our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.
The principal Toys for Tots activities which take place each year are the collection and distribution of toys in the communities in which a Marine Corps Reserve Unit is located and in communities without a Reserve Unit that has a Marine Corps League Detachment or group of men and women, generally veteran Marines, authorized by Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to conduct a local Toys for Tots campaign. Local Toys for Tots Campaign Coordinators conduct an array of activities throughout the year, which include golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other purely voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots, and concurrently generate toy and monetary donations.

Thanks to all the help from employees and friends of the Sheriff’s Office for making last years Toys for Tots campaign a success.  This year’s campaign will begin in late October!!
