Cornelius Terry Lee Sparks

On July 29, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an alleged sexual assault against a child.  The report indicated that the assault occurred in the Chocowinity area.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews.                                                                                                     

As a result of information obtained during the investigation, Investigator Robert Gaskins obtained a warrant charging Cornelius Terry Lee Sparks, age 23, of Hodges Road in Chocowinity with one count of Statutory Rape of a Person Who is 13, 14, or 15 Years Old.

Sparks turned himself in on September 24, 2009 and was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000.00 secured bond.

On June 1, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person.  The report indicated that Glen McCullough Jr., age 34, of Choco Village Road in Chocowinity N.C. had not been seen or heard from since May 30, 2009.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and attempted to locate McCullough.

On June 4, 2009 at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a body discovery on Little Egypt Road in Blounts Creek, N.C.  Deputies and Investigators responded to the scene and found the body of a black male consistent with McCullough’s description.  Investigator’s processed the crime scene and collected evidence.  Interviews were conducted and evidence was submitted to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations’ Crime Lab for analysis.

On September 23, 2009, Lieutenant Jamie Cahoon applied for and obtained a warrant charging John Lynelle Bryant, age 35, of NC 33 Highway East in Chocowinity, N.C. with an open count of Murder.  On September 24, 2009, Bryant was arrested and brought before Magistrate D. Curtis.  Bryant was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center without the benefit of bond.

On August 29, 2009 at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of shots fired at Lil’ John’s Club at 6307 Highway 17 South in Chocowinity N.C.  Deputies responded to the location and discovered a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.  More than 80 people were at the property when Deputies arrived.  The Deputies and a State Trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol secured the scene and called for additional assistance from off-duty Deputies and Investigators.  Investigators processed the crime scene and began an investigation.  The deceased man was identified as Neal Wave Whitney, age 21, of Taylor Road in Chocowinity.

          On September 23, 2009, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained a warrant charging Erick Aguirre Smallwood, age 20, of Bridge Street in Washington, N.C. with an open count of Murder.  Smallwood was served on September 23rd and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center without the benefit of bond.

On September 16, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit served arrest warrants and executed a Search Warrant on Jeffery Moliek Bush, 32 years of age, of 112 Slatestone Drive in Washington. 

Bush was charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine within 1000 feet of a school, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Bush’s arrest stemmed from Investigators making purchases of crack cocaine from Bush.  Investigators executed a Search Warrant on Bush’s residence.  Investigators found a small quantity of crack cocaine, digital scales and plastic bags used to repackage controlled substances. 

Bush was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $25,000.00 secured bond.

On September 04, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested John Morning Boston, 44 years of age, of 134 Parkview Drive in Washington.  Boston was charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine within 1000 feet of a school, two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a controlled substance in the jail.

Boston’s arrest stemmed from Investigators making purchases of crack cocaine from Boston.  Investigators arrested Boston and transported him to the Beaufort County Detention Center where he was searched and found to be in possession of four bags of crack cocaine. The crack cocaine was hidden in Boston’s underwear.

Boston was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $20,000.00 secured bond.

Bobby Lee Moore Jr

On September 10, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit served arrest warrants and executed a Search Warrant on Bobby Lee Moore Jr., 29 years of age, of 21073 Hwy. 33 in Aurora.

Moore was charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Trafficking in Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Moore’s arrest stemmed from Investigators making purchases of crack cocaine from Moore.  Investigators executed a Search Warrant on Moore’s residence.  Investigators found 32 grams of crack cocaine, digital scales, plastic baggies, $746.00 in US currency and a Marlin 45 caliber rifle.

Moore was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $75,000.00 secured bond.

On July 31st, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an out-building that had been broken into in the Jarvis Landing area of Aurora.  A Deputy responded and spoke to a home owner that described a suspicious car seen in the area.  The Deputy patrolled the area and attempted to locate the car.  The home owner observed the car leaving a nearby home and followed the car as it left the area.  The Deputy made contact with the home owner by cellular phone and was directed to the suspect’s location.

          Deputy Michael LoRe attempted to stop the suspect vehicle using his emergency equipment on Highway 33 near Highway 306 North.  The driver failed to stop and fled East on Highway 33.  The car turned left on Campbell’s Creek Road and lost control at the intersection of Campbell’s Creek Road and Austin Road.  Deputy LoRe arrested the driver and searched the car.  Deputy LoRe located several items that were reported stolen from the Jarvis Landing residence as well as 120 prescription pills.  The driver, Marshall Grant  Hartley, age 18, of Lewis Road in Aurora, was charged with Felony Flee to Elude Arrest, Felony Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, and Driving While License Revoked.  Hartley was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $5000.00 secured bond.

          Deputies returned to the Jarvis Landing area and discovered five additional homes had been broken into.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and collected evidence.  Additional items stolen during the break-ins were recovered during the investigation.

          On August 28th, 2009, Lieutenant Jamie Cahoon applied for and obtained warrants charging Marshall Hartley; Anthony Todd McDaniels, age 18, of Brawley Avenue in Mooresville, NC; and Adam James Cooper, age 19, of Rene Lane in Maiden, NC with five felony counts each of Second Degree Burglary, four felony counts each of Larceny after Breaking and Entering, two felony counts each of Larceny of a Firearm, and one felony count each of Felony Breaking and Entering.  Hartley, who had made bond on the initial charges, was served on August 28th by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and held on a $75,000 secured bond.  On August 31st, McDaniels was served by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and held on a $75,000 secured bond.  On September 2nd, Cooper turned himself in at the Magistrate’s Office in Washington, NC.  Cooper was served and held on a $40,000 secured bond.

     On August 31, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit served arrest warrants on Shawn Gilbert Credle, 20 years of age, of 325 W. 9th Street in Washington and Deequan McKinney, 18 years of age, of 702 Boston Avenue in Washington .  Credle was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  McKinney was charged with three counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Their arrest stemmed from Investigators making undercover purchases of marijuana and cocaine from Credle and McKinney.  Credle was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,500.00 secured bond.  McKinney was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under an $8,000.00 secured bond.
