Kevon Wallace


Charon Spencer

 

     On May 27, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Kevon Montavus Wallace, 28 years of age, of 214 Quail Drive in Washington and Charon Drakos Spencer, 31 years of age, of 285 Sam Graddy Road in Washington.

     Wallace was charged with six counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Simple Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

     Spencer was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Sell and Delivery of Marijuana and Maintaining a Vehicle to Store and Sell a Controlled Substance.

     Their arrest stemmed from Investigators making purchases of marijuana from Wallace.  Investigators learned from surveillance that Wallace was receiving his marijuana from Spencer.  Investigators followed Wallace to the Footlocker shoe store in Washington where Wallace received marijuana from Spencer.  Spencer is employed at Footlocker and was currently at work when Wallace received marijuana from Spencer.  After Wallace received marijuana from Spencer, Investigators immediately entered the Footlocker and arrested Spencer.  Wallace was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $15,000.00 secured bond.  Spencer was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000.00 secured bond.

 

 


Joshua Briley

 

     On April 13th, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault that occurred at a home on Cherry Road in Washington. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted several interviews.

     On May 28th, Investigator Jamie Cahoon applied for and obtained a warrant charging Joshua Kane Briley, age 21, of Cherry Road in Washington, North Carolina with one felony count of Dissemination of Obscenities to a Minor and two felony counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child.  Briley turned himself in on May 28th and was brought before Magistrate D. Sadler.  Briley was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.

On April 22, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a breaking and entering and larceny that occurred at a residence on Thorp Lane in Chocowinity.  The victim reported that money, two firearms, and other items were missing from inside the residence.

Shortly after the Sheriff’s Office received the report, Detectives with the Washington Police Department stopped a vehicle on unrelated circumstances and located the two stolen firearms.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews.

As a result of information obtained during the investigation and evidence collected by the Washington Police Department, Investigator Robert Gaskins obtained warrants charging John Garrett Mayo, age 17, of Hwy 102 in Chocowinity, William Joseph Wallace, age 18, of VOA Road in Washington, and Danielle Alex Baker, age 16, of Hwy 102 in Chocowinity with one count each of Felony Breaking and Entering, and two counts each of Larceny of a Firearm.

On May 22, 2009, Mayo and Baker were arrested and confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center on $10,000 secured bonds.  Wallace turned himself in on May 27, 2009 and was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond.

On May 07, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Durrelle Daniels, 21 years of age, of 40 Trails End North in Washington.  Daniels was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Daniels arrest stemmed from Investigators obtaining an arrest warrant on Daniels after making an undercover purchase of crack cocaine from Daniels.  Investigators responded to Daniels residence to serve the arrest warrant.  Investigators arrived and witnessed Daniels smoking marijuana.  Investigators conducted a search of Daniels residence and found a small quantity of marijuana, cocaine and plastic baggies used to repackage controlled substances.

  Daniels was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $30, O00.00 secured bond.

On May 22, 2009, Corporal Kasey Neal with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling the Swamp Road area of Pantego, N.C.  At approximately 10:00 P.M., Cpl. Neal conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a headlamp out that was acting suspiciously.  During a search of the stopped vehicle, Cpl. Neal discovered two syringes and a substance believed to be heroin.

As a result, Cpl. Neal arrested the driver, Dana Edward Nobles, age 38, of Highway 32 North in Plymouth.  Nobles was charged with Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Nobles was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $5000.00 secured bond issued by Magistrate E. Holmes.

On May 06, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Anthony Hopkins, 30 years of age, of 164 Swamp Road in Pantego, Durante Whitney, 21 years of age, of 349 George Street in Belhaven, James Whitney, 30 years of age, of 594 Edward Street in Belhaven and Arthur Lasane, 38 years of age, of Livonia Avenue in Brooklyn New York.  They were charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Their arrest stemmed from Investigators receiving complaints that drug use and drug distribution is occurring at Southern Cheers in Washington.  Investigators conducted surveillance and witnessed them smoking marijuana in the parking lot of Southern Cheers.  They were detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $1,500.00 secured bond

On April 25, 2009 at approximately 12:55 A.M., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault.  Deputies responded to Trails End MHP in Washington and found the victim in the roadway, bleeding from an apparent head wound.  The victim was unconscious and unable to provide any details. Washington EMS responded and transported the victim to the hospital.  He was later transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital as a result of the injuries sustained during the assault.

The responding Deputies spoke to a witness at the scene that identified a possible suspect vehicle.  The witness also stated the suspects were armed with a handgun.  Sgt. Charlie Rose located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.  During the traffic stop, a handgun was discovered in the passenger compartment.  As a result of the stop, Christopher Bernard Moore, age 25, of Trails End South in Washington was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm by Felon and Cedric Jamal Gibbs, age 20, of Haven Street in Washington was arrested and charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon.  An Investigator responded to the scene to continue the investigation.  

After conducting interviews and reviewing evidence, Investigator Robert Gaskins applied for and obtained warrants charging Moore and Gibbs with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.  Moore was arrested on May 7, 2009 and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $5000.00 secured bond issued by Magistrate David Curtis.  Gibbs was arrested on May 8, 2009 and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $5000.00 secured bond issued by Magistrate Bruce Smith.

On May 4th 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault that occurred on Highway 264 East near Everette’s Cross Roads. The report indicated that a tractor trailer was struck on the windshield with a baseball thrown from a school activity bus.  The baseball shattered the windshield of the tractor trailer as it traveled down Highway 264.  The ball partially penetrated the driver’s compartment causing glass to cut the driver’s hand and face.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews.

On May 19th 2009, Lieutenant Jamie Cahoon applied for and obtained a warrant charging Zachary Jay Boyd, age 17, of Biggs Road in Pinetown, North Carolina with one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Injury to Personal Property.  Boyd turned himself in on May 19th and was released on a custody order.

K-9 Ronnie

 

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is very sad to announce that on May 02, 2009 Sheriff’s Office canine Ronnie was found dead in his kennel at his handler’s residence.  Ronnie was six (6) years old and began service with the Narcotics Division of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office in October of 2005.  Ronnie quickly became an integral part of the Narcotics Division.  Within his first two months of service Ronnie found the hiding location of four kilograms of cocaine and approximately $37,501.00 that belonged to a Mexican drug trafficking organization operating in Beaufort County.  Over the history of Ronnie’s service with the Narcotics Division he was responsible for the discovery of millions of dollars of narcotics, U.S. currency and drug paraphernalia.  Ronnie and his partner Investigator David Richards frequently met with school and civic groups.  On the morning of the day of his death he had participated in the Humane Society Pets on Parade event at the Beaufort County Animal Shelter.   

Ronnie was transported to the Rollins Laboratory in Raleigh, NC for necropsy  to determine cause of death and rule out the possibility of foul play.  Dr. Tucker at the Rollins Laboratory in Raleigh lists the cause of death as acute heart failure.  The Doctor reported no evidence of poisoning or other foul play in the examination.  Samples have been sent for examination to verify the findings.

     On May 05, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit served indictments on Shawn Carlos Godley, 25 years of age, of 430 Gladden Street in Washington.  Godley was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine and Habitual Felon.

     The indictments stemmed from Investigators making a purchase of crack cocaine from Godley after he was released on 11-29-2008 from the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Godley has three prior felony convictions.

Godley was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $30,000.00 secured bond.

     On May 05, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit served indictments on James Lamont Barrow, 32 years of age, of 477 Union Street in Belhaven. Barrow was charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine.

     The indictments stemmed from Investigators making purchases of crack cocaine from Barrow.  Barrow was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000.00 secured bond.

     On April 14, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a larceny that occurred on Vreugdenhill Road in Pantego, NC.    The victim reported that ten automatic hog feeders had been taken from his farm and sold at a local scrap metal dealer.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews. 

     As a result of the investigation, Investigator Dwight Williams applied for andobtained warrants charging Michael Dean Smith, age 45, of

Vreugdenhill Road in Pantego with Felony Larceny and Obtaining Property by False Pretenses.  On May 6th, Smith was arrestedand

held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000.00 secured bond

     The indictment stemmed from Investigators making a purchase of crack cocaine from Jones.  Jones was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $5,000.00 secured bond.
