On June 7, 2009 at approximately 10:17 p.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was called to a suspicious fire located on the Chandler Road in Vanceboro NC.  Deputies responded and located bundles of copper wire.  Some of the bundles had been burnt in a contained fire in the yard of a residence.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation to determine who set the fire and where the bundles of wire came from.

            On June 15, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office learned Beaufort Police Department in Carteret County was investigating a breaking and entering and larceny of wire in their jurisdiction.  Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and Beaufort Police Department shared information, collected evidence, and conducted several interviews.

            On July 15, 2009, Investigator Wesley Waters of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office applied for and obtained a warrant charging Shannon Elizabeth Ford, age 19, of Yankee Hall Road in Greenville and Jonathan Paxton Jones, age 22, of Nelson Farm Road in Chocowinity with one count each of Obtaining Property By False Pretenses.  The charge stemmed from the sale of stolen wire to a local recycling company.  Ford and Jones were also charged by Detective Troy Edwards of the Beaufort Police Department with Felony Breaking and Entering, Felony  Larceny, and Possession of Stolen Goods for a break-in that occurred at a waste water treatment plant in Beaufort NC between June 3 and June 9, 2009.

            Ford was arrested on July 15, 2009 and held on a $7,500.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Bruce Smith.  Jones was arrested on July 17, 2009 and held on a $7,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Jasper Mills.

On July 21, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Christopher Degrafferee George, 19 years of age, of 650 Powell Road in Vanceboro and Desmond Jermaine Parker, 20 years of age, of 104 Nickles Drive in Vanceboro.

George was charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana.  Parker was charged with one count of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana.

There arrest stemmed from Investigators making undercover purchases of marijuana from George and Parker.  On the day of their arrest they delivered and sold a quarter pound of marijuana to an undercover officer.

George and Parker were detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000.00 secured bond.

On July 20, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Durwood Linard Price aka Lynn Price, 68 years of age, of 58 Sandy Meadows Road in Chocowinity.  Price was charged with six counts of Trafficking in Opium.

Price’s arrest stemmed from Investigators receiving complaints that Price was selling pain medication.  Investigators conducted surveillance and made purchases of prescription pain pills that contain opium.  Investigators conducted a traffic stop Price to serve arrest warrants and found an additional nine Vicodin pills hidden on Price.

  Price was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $50,000.00 secured bond.

On June 1, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person.  The report indicated that Glen McCullough Jr., age 34, of Choco Village Road in Chocowinity N.C. had not been seen or heard from since May 30, 2009. 

On June 4, 2009 at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a body discovery on Little Egypt Road in Blounts Creek, N.C.  Deputies and Investigators responded to the scene and found the body of a black male, which was later identified as McCullough.  Preliminary autopsy results indicate that McCullough’s death was a homicide.     During the course of the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office developed a description of a vehicle that may be involved in the case.  If you have any information on the whereabouts of a teal green 1991 Honda Accord 4 door operated by John Lynelle Bryant in the past two months, please call the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at (252)946-7111 or Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at (252)974-6400.  The vehicle is similar to the one portrayed in the attached photo.  Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1000.00 reward for information that leads to the recovery of the vehicle or an arrest in this case.  Callers do not have to give their name, only their information.

On July 15, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Michael Dean Smith, 45 years of age, of 143 Vreugdenhil Road in Pantego.  Smith was charged with Possession of Heroin and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Smith’s arrest stemmed from Investigators conducting traffic stop on a vehicle that was occupied by Smith and his brother.  Investigators noticed Smith was extremely nervous.  Investigators conducted a consent search of Smith and found a bag of heroin and a syringe in his pocket.

Smith was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $3,000.00 secured bond.

On July 13, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit served arrest warrants on Brandon Jay Hall, 24 years of age, of 1408 Harrington Street in Washington.

Hall was charged with three counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of a Park and three counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana.

Hall’s arrest stemmed from Investigators making purchases of marijuana from Hall.

Hall was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $35,000.00 secured bond.

On June 15, 2009, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Wendy Masters Smith, 43 years of age, of 1419 Hoff Road in Belhaven, Dana Nobles, 38 years of age, of 24548 Hwy. 32 in Plymouth and Dennis Harding, 50 years of age, of 687 Hardison Road in Chocowinity.

Wendy Masters Smith was charged with Possession of Heroin, Trafficking in Opium and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Dana Nobles was charged with Possession of Heroin and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Dennis Harding was charged with two counts of Trafficking in Opium.

Their arrest stemmed from Investigators receiving information of suspicious activity occurring from room 10 at the Fountain Lodge in Chocowinity.  Investigators conducted surveillance and stopped two vehicles that left from room 10.  The first vehicle was a Chevrolet HHR occupied by Smith and Nobles.  Investigators conducted a search and found a bag of heroin, syringes and a pill bottle prescribed to Dennis Harding containing Oxycodone.

The second vehicle was a Chevrolet Tahoe occupied by Dennis Harding.  Investigators conducted a search and found two pill bottles with the labels scraped off containing Oxycodone in Harding’s pocket.

Smith, Nobles and Harding were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $15,000.00 secured bond.

On December 19, 2008, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Washington County Department of Social Services involving a sex offense that occurred in the Pantego area.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, reviewed evidence and conducted interviews.

          On June 22, 2009, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained a warrant charging Jurden Braxton Bell Jr., age 68, of Hwy 99 North in Pantego, NC with one count of Statutory Rape of Person Who is 13, 14, or 15 Years Old by a Defendant Who is at Least Six Years Older than the Victim.

          On June 23, 2009, Bell was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $50,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Donald Sadler.

          On July 7, 2009, the Grand Jury of Beaufort County returned six True Bills of Indictment charging Bell with five additional counts of Statutory Rape of Person Who is 13, 14, or 15 Years Old by a Defendant Who is at Least Six Years Older than the Victim and six counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child.  Bell, who had been released after posting the previous bond, turned himself in on July 14th and was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $100,000 secured bond.

on june 6, 2009, the beaufort county sheriff’s office received a report of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny that occurred at dinah’s landing boat ramp in washington.  the victim reported someone entered his vehicle and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and mp3 players.  on june 12th, the sheriff’s office began assisting goose creek state park rangers with the investigation of two vehicle break-ins that occurred in goose creek state park.  the first break-in occurred on june 2nd, and the other on june 10th.

        On June 6, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle and Larceny that occurred at Dinah’s Landing Boat Ramp in Washington.  The victim reported someone entered his vehicle and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and mp3 players.  On June 12th, the Sheriff’s Office began assisting Goose Creek State Park Rangers with the investigation of two vehicle break-ins that occurred in Goose Creek State Park.  The first break-in occurred on June 2nd, and the other on June 10th.

During the investigation, evidence was discovered that linked the three cases.   Investigators also learned that credit cards stolen during the break-ins were used at local businesses.  On June 18th, Investigator Jim Martin of the Sheriff’s Office and Park Superintendent Kelly Thompson applied for and obtained warrants charging Carrie Lynn Romick, age 27, of Hwy 222 in Wilson, NC with one(1) count of Breaking and or Entering of a Motor Vehicle, one(1) count of Misdemeanor Larceny, four(4) counts of Financial Card Forgery, four(4) counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses and three(3) counts of Attempted Obtaining Property by False Pretenses.  Romick was served in the Beaufort County Detention Center where she was incarcerated on unrelated charges.  She was held on an additional $20,000.00 secured bond.   

          On July 9th, Investigator Jim Martin and Superintendent Kelly Thompson applied for and obtained warrants charging three additional subjects for their involvement in the vehicle break-ins and credit card use.  Teddy Brown, age 32, of Mixon Creek Drive in Bath, NC was charged with three(3) counts of Felony Breaking and or Entering of a Motor Vehicle, three(3) counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, two(2) counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses, one(1) count of Financial Card Forgery and two(2) counts of Injury to Personal Property.  Sheree Brown, age 31, of Mixon Creek Drive in Bath was charged with two(2) counts of Breaking and or Entering of a Motor Vehicle, two(2) counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, one(1) count of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses, one(1) count of Attempted Obtaining Property by False Pretenses, and one(1) count of Injury to Personal Property.  Stacy Jean Wallace, age 35, of Pine Drive in Chocowinity was charged with two(2) counts of Breaking and or Entering of a Motor Vehicle, two(2) counts of Misdemeanor Larceny and one(1) count of Injury to Personal Property.  Teddy and Sheree Brown and Stacy Wallace turned themselves in on July 9th.  Teddy Brown was held on a $30,000.00 secured bond.  Sheree Brown was held on a $15,000.00 secured bond.  Stacy Wallace was held on a $3000.00 secured bond.

     On June 24th, 2009, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle fire on Topping Loop Road in Pantego, NC.  Deputies responded to the scene and discovered the fire was intentionally set.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted several interviews.

After collecting evidence, Corporal William Ragland arrested Shawn Anthony Windley, age 32, of Wilkinson Station Road in Pantego and charged him with one count of Burning Personal Property. Windley was brought before Magistrate J. Mills where he was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
