On March 26, 2012 at approximately 8:31 p.m., Deputy Michael LoRe assisted a Trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol with a traffic stop on Highway 33 West near Frederick Road. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for DWI, Speeding, and Open container in the Passenger Area by the Trooper. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded .38 revolver and a bag of “Mad Hatter” incense was discovered.

As a result, Deputy LoRe charged Cornelius Terry Lee Sparks, age 25, of Highway 33 West in Chocowinity, NC with Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of a Synthetic Cannabinoid. Sparks was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,500.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.

On March 24, 2012, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division arrested Donald Ramon Moore, age 32, of 4620 Core Point Rd. Blounts Creek. Moore’s arrest stemmed from the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center receiving a 911 call reporting a suspicious person on Flat Swamp Rd. in Blounts Creek. When Deputies responded to the area they witnessed Donald Moore exposing himself on the front porch of a residence. Deputies approached the residence and Moore pulled his pants up and ran into a wooded area. Deputies apprehended Moore after a foot chase.

Moore was found to be in possession of 4.5 grams of heroin, 12 grams of cocaine and drug packaging material at the time of his arrest. Moore was charged with Level I Trafficking in Heroin, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Indecent Exposure and Resist, Delay, Obstruct a Public Officer. Moore was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $33,000 secured bond.

On March 20, 2012, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Patrick Henry Rodgers, age 34, of 3427 Wharton Station Rd. Washington. Rogers’ arrest stemmed from Investigators in the Drug Unit conducting controlled purchases of marijuana and cocaine from Rodgers. Rodgers was arrested during a traffic stop and was in possession of cocaine and drug packaging material.

Rodgers was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Possession with Intent to sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine and three counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Rodgers was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.

On February 28, 2012, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Troy Macon Roeloffs, age 32, of 369 Sams Rd. Chocowinity, Alisha Nicole Lopez, age 23, of 369 Sams Rd. Chocowinity, Major Churchill Lewis Jr., age 35, of 205 Hudnell St. Washington, Lawrence Paul Brooks, age 34, of 4466 Loop Rd. Scranton and Jamie Stewart Daniels, age 36, of 3719 Hwy 33 E Chocowinity. Their arrests stemmed from the Sheriff’s Office receiving a Crime Stoppers complaint of drug activity at Roelofs’ residence. The Drug Unit conducted traffic stops and a search of Roelofs’ residence and as a result seized 23 grams of cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and $1,560.00.

Troy Roelofs and Alisha Lopez were charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession With intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jamie Daniels and Lawrence Brooks were charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Less than ½ Ounce of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Major Lewis Jr. was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Roelofs was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond. Lopez was released under a $15,000 unsecured bond. Brooks, Daniels and Lewis Jr. were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.

On December 7, 2011, Captain Catrena R. Ross of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was awarded the Advanced Detention Officer Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission. A letter addressed to Capt. Ross from Attorney General Roy Cooper states, “As a recipient of this prestigious award, you have placed yourself among the “ELITE” of detention officers in the state of North Carolina.”

On March 9, 2012, Capt Ross completed the National Jail Leadership Command Academy presented by the American Jail Association and Correctional Management Institute of Texas. This training will further prepare Capt. Ross to direct the operations of the Beaufort County Detention Center. Capt. Ross is the administrator of the Detention Center and has worked there since 2001.

On February 23, 2012 at approximately 4:47 a.m, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Breaking and Entering and Larceny that had already occurred at a residence on Mouth of the Creek Road in Chocowinity, NC. Deputy Scott Williams and others responded to the scene to begin an investigation and collect evidence. Deputy Williams recalled seeing items inside a vehicle from an arrest earlier in the day that matched some of the items reported stolen at the residence. During the follow-up investigation, Investigator Jim Adams received a report of larceny of a credit card and credit card fraud involving the same suspect.

As a result, Investigator Jim Adams applied for and obtained warrants charging Brooke Danielle Jones, age 23, of Goose Creek Road in Washington, NC with Felony Breaking and Entering, Larceny after Breaking and Entering, Financial Card Theft and Financial Card Fraud. Jones was arrested on March 8, 2012 and taken before Magistrate Jasper Mills. She was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000.00 secured bond.

On December 11, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a strong arm robbery and theft that occurred on Bettie Drive, in Aurora, NC. The victim reported two men approached her and forcibly took the dog she was walking. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews.

On March 3, 2012, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging Robert Manley Narron, age 22, of Jordan Narron Road in Selma and Tracey Matthew Narron, age 38, of Creech’s Church Road in Kenly with one(1) count each of Common Law Robbery and one(1) count each of Larceny of a Dog. On March 6, 2012, Robert Narron was arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and held in the Johnston County Detention Center on a $50,000 secured bond. On March 7, 2012, Tracey Narron was arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and also held in the Johnston County Detention Center on a $50,000 secured bond. The stolen dog was recovered and returned to the victim.

On February 2, 2012, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a Crime Stoppers tip indicating that a sex offender registered in Beaufort County had a Facebook page. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews.

As a result of the investigation, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained a warrant charging Denise McNair, age 52, of Clay Bottom School Road in Blounts Creek with one(1) count of Sex Offender Use of a Social Website. On March 7, 2012, McNair turned herself in at the Beaufort County Magistrate’s Office and was released on a $15,000 unsecured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.

On March 9, 2012 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Deputy Zack Martin responded to a report of a subject selling drugs at a residence on South Boyd Road in Pinetown, NC. Deputy Martin contacted the suspect’s Probation Officer and met her at the residence. During a search of the residence, Deputy Martin seized small quantities of marijuana and cocaine, digital scales, smoking pipes, and spirituous liquor.

As a result of the search, Deputy Martin arrested Sarah Ann Asby, age 20, of South Boyd Road in Pinetown and charged her with Possession of Cocaine, Simple Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Spirituous Liquor by Defendant Less than 21. Asby was taken before Magistrate D. Sadler and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $4,000.00 secured bond.

On March 6, 2012 at approximately 10:25 p.m., Deputy Brad Cumston with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was patrolling the River Road area of Washington. Deputy Cumston observed a vehicle drive left of center and conducted a traffic stop near Park Drive and Hudnell Street.

During the stop, Cumston detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and learned that the driver had been drinking beer. During a search of the car, Cumston recovered a small bag of marijuana and four short plastic straw pieces with white residue under a seat. The residue tested positive for the presence of cocaine.

As a result, Deputy Cumston arrested Ronriquez Lamont Flowers, age 25, of Vermont Avenue in Washington and charged him with Possession of Cocaine, Simple Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Flowers was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $2,500.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Mills.

On March 7, 2012 at approximately 12:15 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident on Minor Run Road in Edward, NC. First responders from Aurora Fire and EMS responded to the scene and discovered a deceased male in a car with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Deputies responded to the location and secured the scene with the assistance of the Aurora responders. Investigators were called to the scene and began an investigation. The victim has been identified as Bobby Ray Buck, age 33, of Hall Avenue in Aurora.

Based on evidence recovered at the scene, the case is being considered a homicide. The investigation is on-going and a suspect has been identified. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at (252)946-7111 or Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at (252)974-6400. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000.00 for information that leads to an arrest in this case. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
