On May 5, 2012 at approximately 9:06 a.m., Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to South Harding Village Road in Washington, NC in reference to a Domestic Dispute. When Deputies arrived, they learned the suspect was also a registered sex offender. The location of the disturbance did not match the suspect’s registered address.

The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews. As a result, Investigator Scott Williams applied for and obtained warrants charging Clarence Kevin Thigpen, age 46, formerly of Tranters Creek Drive in Washington with Sex Offender/Failure to Notify Change of Address and Sex Offender Residence Restriction/Residing Within 1000 Feet of Educational Property.

Thigpen has prior charges for Failing to Notify Change of Address in Beaufort County and is still at large. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at (252)946-7111 or Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at (252)974-6400. Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000.00 reward for information leading to his arrest. Callers do not have to give their name to receive a reward.

On May 5, 2012, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Breaking and Entering and Larceny that occurred at a farm on Railroad Bed Road in Pantego, NC. The victim reported copper tubing and a trail camera stolen. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews.

As a result of the investigation, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging Hilton Gray Everson, III, age 36, of Wilkerson Station Road in Pantego and Amiee Dunn Dail, age 37, of Topping Loop Road in Pantego with one(1) count each of Felony Breaking and Entering and one(1) count each of Larceny After Breaking and Entering. On June 25, 2012, Amiee Dail turned herself in at the Magistrate’s Office and was held on a $2,700 secured bond set by Magistrate Jasper Mills. On June 26, 2012, Hilton Everson, III turned himself in at the Magistrate’s Office and was held on a $1,500 secured bond set by Magistrate David Curtis.

On June 7, 2012 at approximately 3:00 a.m., Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hilda’s Family Country Store located on Cherry Run Road in Washington, NC in reference to an alarm activation. When Deputies arrived, they observed the front glass door to the business was broken. Packs of cigarettes and beer were taken from the business.

The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews. As a result, Investigator Scott Williams applied for and obtained warrants charging Jeffery Allen Nobles, age 36, of Farm Lane in Washington with Felony Breaking and Entering and Larceny After Breaking and Entering.

Nobles is still at large and is also wanted as an absconder from probation. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at (252)946-7111 or Beaufort County Crime Stoppers at (252)974-6400. Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000.00 reward for information leading to his arrest. Callers do not have to give their name to receive a reward.

On June 10, 2012 at approximately 12:20 pm, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Fraud from East 12th Street in Washington. The victim reported that a suspect stole the victim’s bank card and began making fraudulent charges. Investigators began an investigation, reviewed evidence, and conducted interviews.

As a result, Investigator Scott Williams applied for and obtained a warrant charging Jennifer Arnold Waters, age 35, of Farm Lane in Washington with Financial Card Theft, Obtaining Property by False Pretense, and Financial Card Fraud. On June 26, 2012, Waters was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and taken before Magistrate David Curtis. Waters was released under a $10,000 unsecured bond.

On June 20, 2012, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Jeremy Johnathan Schmaltz, age 31, of 44 Squire Drive Greenville and Saundra Renee Barnett, age 34, of 1725 Cedar Lane Apt. B Greenville. Their arrests stemmed from Investigators conducting controlled purchases of prescription pain medication from both Schmaltz and Barnett. At the time of their arrest Schmaltz and Barnett were in possession of quantities of Oxycodone.

Schmaltz and Barnett were arrested and charged with three counts each of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance and both were charged with Level I Trafficking in Opium by transportation and Level I Trafficking in Opium by Possession. Schmaltz and Barnett were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under $100,000 secured bonds.

On June 22nd at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a house fire at 346 Middle Road in Aurora, NC.  Members of the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department, Aurora EMS, and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and discovered a camper was fully engulfed.

            Shortly after entering the burning residence, firefighters found the body of the owner, Henry Jennette, age 73, in the front portion of the camper.  Jennette was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and requested the assistance of the NCSBI in processing the scene. 

            Once the NCSBI arrived, Investigators processed the scene and evidence was collected.  Investigators do not believe foul play was involved in the incident.  The fire was ruled undetermined with the possibility of a cooking accident.  An autopsy will be scheduled for Jennette to determine a cause of death.

On May 16, 2012 at approximately 10:00 am, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of suspicious property located behind a residence on Highway 17 North in Washington. Deputies responded to the area and located two central air conditioner units on a trailer concealed in the woods behind a residence. Deputies located the serial numbers and discovered that the air conditioners had been reported stolen from Greenville, NC. Deputies began an investigation and identified a suspect.

As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Investigator Scott Williams applied for and obtained a warrant charging David Earl Tyson, age 56, of Highway 17 North in Washington with Felony Possession of Stolen Property. On June 13th, Tyson was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division. He was taken before Magistrate Jasper Mills and released on a $3000.00 unsecured bond.

On June 19th at approximately 8:48 p.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a report about a fire at Coastal Car Connection, 2016 West 5th Street in Washington. Fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies were dispatched to the scene.

Fire crews battled the blaze and were able to save some of the building and property at the business.

The cause of the fire is considered suspicious at this time and is under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation with the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. On June 6, 2012, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit conducted a controlled purchase of cocaine in the City Washington. During the controlled purchase Investigators witnessed a drug transaction occur between an unknown black male and Keith Maurice Small, black male, age 33 of 315 West 15th Street in Washington.

Investigators approached Small while he was sitting in a GMC Yukon SUV located on Van Norden Street near Fifth Street. When Investigators approached, they saw Small shove plastic bags of suspected illegal drugs into his mouth. Investigators attempted to detain Small. Small resisted, tried to escape and fought with Investigators while inside his vehicle. When Investigators gained control of Small they realized he was having trouble breathing. Investigators immediately requested Washington Emergency Medical Services to respond to the scene. While Investigators waited for Washington Emergency Medical Services to arrive Investigators removed a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana from Small’s throat and attempted the Heimlich Maneuver and chest compressions on Small in an effort to render first aid.

  On June 1, 2012, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit arrested Eric Lavon Jennette, age 33, of 447 W Bay Street in Belhaven and Torrence Lavon Satterthwaite, age 27, of 444 George Street in Belhaven. Their arrests stemmed from members of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team executing a search warrant at 444 Old County Road in Belhaven. Investigators in the Narcotics Unit had conducted several controlled purchases of crack-cocaine from Jennette at this residence. As a result of the search warrant Investigators seized 110 grams of crack-cocaine, 110 grams of powder cocaine, 40 grams of marijuana, crack-cocaine manufacturing materials, drug packaging materials, drug paraphernalia and $1,261 in cash.

Eric Jennette and Torrence Satterthwaite were arrested and charged with Level II Trafficking in Cocaine, Conspire to Traffic in Cocaine, Manufacture Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Maintaining a Dwelling to Facilitate Drug Activity and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jennette and Sattertwhaite were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under $100,000 secured bonds.
