On January 27th, 2012 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Deputy Jason Cleary of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling the Edward community. Cleary observed suspicious activity in the parking lot of a convenience store on Highway 33 and stopped to watch the area. Deputy Cleary followed a vehicle that left the parking lot to observe the vehicle’s operation. After observing the vehicle travel left of center and exceeding the posted speed limit, Deputy Cleary initiated a traffic stop on Highway 33 near Stilley Town Road.

Deputy Cleary made contact with the driver and detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage. While speaking to the driver, an open container of beer was observed in the vehicle. During a search, Cleary discovered a bag in the glove compartment containing 20 individually packaged baggies of marijuana and 4 Hydrocodone pills. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the Magistrate’s Office. Lawrence Mel Tetterton, age 25, of Highway 33 East in Aurora, NC was charged with Possession With Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. Tetterton was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $6,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Donald Sadler.

On January 26, 2012, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team and members of the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division executed a search warrant at 1224 Maple St. located in the Quail Ridge apartment complex in Washington. The search warrant stemmed from members of the Narcotics Unit conducting controlled purchases of crack-cocaine from individuals at the residence. As a result of the search warrant the Sheriff’s Office seized over 38 grams of crack-cocaine, over $500 in cash, marijuana, digital scales containing cocaine residue, plastic baggies used to package controlled substances and a plastic container used to manufacture crack-cocaine.

As a result of the search warrant the Sheriff’s Office arrested Eric Wilson Toney, age 39, of 357 E 15th St. Washington, Bruce Tyrell Scott, age 27, of 577 Cherry Run Rd. Washington, Jerrod Omari Carter, age 23, of 134 Manuel Drive Washington, Amos Lee Wiggins, age 22, of 1224 Maple St. Washington, Charlene Julicia Holland, age 23, of 1224 Maple St. Washington and Artisha Lynette Pender, age 25, of 901 E 8th St. Washington. All individuals were charged with Level I Trafficking in Cocaine, Conspiracy to Traffic in Cocaine, Manufacture Cocaine, Maintain a Dwelling to Facilitate Drug Activity, Possession of Less than ½ Ounce of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Eric Toney was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond. Bruce Scott, Jerrod Carter, Amos Wiggins, Charlene Holland and Artisha Pender were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under $150,000 secured bonds.

On January 20, 2012, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Gray Road in Chocowinity, NC in reference to a report of larceny. Patrol Deputies met with the General Foreman of the Gray Road Mine and discovered two subjects were caught stealing numerous types of scrap metal from the property. While on scene, Deputies documented that the suspect’s vehicle was loaded with stolen scrap metal. Deputies conducted interviews and learned stolen metal from the mine had been previously sold at a recycling business in Vanceboro, NC.

As a result of the investigation, Sergeant Jeremy Landeck arrested James Lindley Deans, age 25, of Doe Run in Washington, NC and Vince Allen Hodges, age 25, of Slatestone Road in Washington, NC. They were both charged with one count of Obtaining Property By False Pretenses, one count of misdemeanor Larceny, and two counts of Second Degree Trespassing. They were brought before Magistrate Curtis and held on $1,500 secured bonds. Deans was also served with an outstanding Order for Arrest for failure to appear in Craven County and issued an additional $500 secured bond.

On January 24, 2012 at approximately 11:42 pm, Patrol Deputies and North Carolina State Troopers responded to the 300 block of Old Blounts Creek Road in Chocowinity, NC in reference to a vehicle accident and possible domestic assault. The driver was suspected of driving while impaired and detained at the scene. The driver became combative and attempted to damage the inside of the Trooper’s vehicle. Deputies escorted the driver to a county patrol vehicle with a prisoner barricade where the driver began to spit on the Deputies. Deputies inventoried the wrecked vehicle and found Cocaine and other drug paraphernalia inside.

The driver was taken to the Beaufort County Medical Center where blood was drawn to determine if any impairing substances were in her system. After the procedure, Deputies were attempting to secure the driver in a patrol car to transport her to the Beaufort County Detention Center when she bit a Deputy on the left side of his face and continued to spit at the Deputies.

As a result of the driver’s actions, warrants were obtained on Ashley Dawn Couch, age 25, of North Boyd Road in Castlewood, Virginia. Couch was charged with Felony Assault on a Government Official, Malicious Conduct by a Prisoner,

Possession of Schedule II, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. State Troopers also charged Couch with Driving While Impaired. Couch was taken before Magistrate Holmes where she was issued a $42,000.00 secured bond and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center.

On January 18, 2012, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a breaking and entering which occurred at a home on Molly Lane in Washington, NC. The victim reported several items were removed from his home. Patrol Deputies responded to the scene and collected information on a possible suspect. While attempting to make contact with the suspect at his residence, Deputies observed the stolen items inside the home.

During the follow-up investigation, Investigators identified the suspect as a registered sex offender and discovered he was not living at his registered address. Investigators also discovered the home where the suspect was living was less than one thousand feet from an elementary school in Chocowinity. A search warrant was obtained and executed at the residence. Stolen property and other evidence were recovered.

As a result, Lieutenant Jamie Cahoon applied for and obtained warrants charging Harley Ray Alligood, Jr., age 48, of NC Highway 33 West in Chocowinity, NC with one count each of Second Degree Burglary, Larceny after Breaking and Entering, Possession of a Firearm By a Felon, Failure to Report Change of Address, and Sex Offender Residential Restriction Violation. Alligood was served in the Beaufort County Detention Center where he was already incarcerated for a Probation Violation. Alligood was held on an additional $25,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Mills. Additional charges against Alligood are expected.

On January 19, 2012, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the 19000 block of Highway 32 North in Pinetown, NC in reference to a domestic assault. After learning neither party wished to pursue charges, the non-resident subject was told to leave the property. After getting into her vehicle to leave, the subject began damaging the yard by spinning tires in circle patterns with her vehicle. The subject then left the property traveling at a high rate of speed in a reckless manner on Highway 32. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued south on Highway 32 at speeds estimated near 100 miles per hour.

The vehicle left the roadway at the intersection of Highway 32 and Ripp Highway and struck a portion of the railroad tracks. The vehicle was disabled and Deputies arrested Audra Boyd Johnson, age 34, of Long Ridge Road in Pinetown, NC. Johnson was transported to the Magistrate’s Office where she was charged with one count of Felony Speeding to Elude Arrest, Careless and Reckless Driving, Speeding, Injury to Real Property, and Resist, Delay, or Obstruct an Officer. Johnson was brought before Magistrate Holmes and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on an $18,000 secured bond.

On January 15, 2012, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a breaking and entering at a home on Old Blounts Creek Road in Chocowinity, NC. Patrol Deputies responded to the scene and learned two subjects had entered a residence and removed copper wiring from the walls and ceilings of the mobile home. Deputies collected evidence at the scene and interviewed suspects.

As a result, Sergeant Ernest Moore arrested Steven Lane Inman, age 21, and Heather Elizabeth Ladd, age 26, both of Old Blounts Creek Road in Chocowinity, NC and transported them to the Magistrate’s Office. Inman and Ladd were charged with one count each of Breaking and Entering and one count each of Larceny After Breaking and Entering. Inman was held on a $10,000 secured bond, and Ladd was held on a $5,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Sadler.

On January 14, 2012 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Sgt. Ernest Moore with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on Harding Lane in Chocowinity. Sgt. Moore stopped the vehicle after observing it cross the center highway line while traveling on East Barr Road. Sgt. Moore identified the driver and checked to determine if the driver had a valid driver’s license or any outstanding arrest warrants. After learning of three active Order for Arrests on Grand Jury Indictments, Sgt. Moore arrested the driver, Mitchell Alando StClair Jr., age 37, of Sharon Court in Washington, NC.

After securing StClair, Moore interviewed the passenger and developed probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, Deputies located five plastic baggies containing marijuana in a glass jar inside of a computer case. A canister containing a white powdery substance was also recovered. Sgt. Moore transported StClair to the Magistrate’s Office, served the outstanding OFA’s, and charged him with Possession With Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. StClair was released after posting an $8,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.

On April 20, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault which occurred at a home on South White Post Road in Pinetown, NC. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews. During the investigation, Investigators learned that two juveniles had been assaulted.

On December 12, 2011, Lieutenant Jamie Cahoon presented the investigation to the Beaufort County Grand Jury. Three True Bills of Indictment were returned against Charlie Clayton Daniels, Sr., age 61, of South White Post Road in Pinetown charging him with three counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child. Daniels was arrested on January 7, 2012 and brought before Magistrate Donald Sadler. Daniels was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $6,500.00 secured bond. Daniels was already a registered sex offender for a prior Beaufort County conviction.

On November 29, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of animal cruelty from Beaufort County Animal Control. Animal Control Officers and Investigators executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence on Boyd Loop Road in Pinetown and found multiple pit bulls on the property. During the investigation, Investigators learned medical procedures were being performed on the canines at the home without veterinary assistance.

As a result of the investigation, Lieutenant Jamie Cahoon applied for and obtained warrants charging John Lynn Asby, Jr., age 20, of Boyd Loop Road in Pinetown with six counts of Felony Cruelty to Animals. On January 5, 2012, Asby was arrested and transported to the Magistrate’s Office where he was brought before Magistrate Donald Sadler. Asby was held on a $5,000.00 secured bond and later released.

On December 1, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of animal cruelty from Beaufort County Animal Control. Animal Control Officers and Deputies responded to the scene and located five deceased canines on the property. One of the canines was transported to Raleigh where a necropsy was performed by the North Carolina Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory System. A doctor ruled the cause of death was starvation. During the investigation, Investigators learned that a surviving canine from the property had been found at a nearby residence in an emaciated state.

As a result of the investigation, Lieutenant Jamie Cahoon applied for and obtained warrants charging Kenneth William Davis, age 23, of West Main Street in Belhaven, NC with one count of Felony Cruelty to Animals and five counts of Misdemeanor Cruelty to Animals.

On January 5, 2012, Davis turned himself at the Beaufort County Magistrate’s Office where he was brought before Magistrate Donald Sadler. Davis was held on a $5,000.00 secured bond and later released.

On December 30, 2011, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested Poindexter Murray, age 34, of 118 Big Hill Rd. Edward and David Stilley, age 39, of 18090 NC Hwy 33 East Blounts Creek. Their arrests stemmed from the Sheriff’s Office receiving several drug complaints in the Edward area involving the sale and distribution of controlled substances. Investigators in the Drug Unit conducted surveillance and witnessed Poindexter and Stilley at the Veri Kwik gas station in Edward. Investigators approached Poindexter’s vehicle and smelled the odor of marijuana. A search of the vehicle and its occupants revealed crack-cocaine and marijuana packaged in plastic baggies and $555.00 in currency. Stilley was found to be in possession of a crack-cocaine smoking pipe.

Poindexter Murray was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Less than ½ Ounce of Marijuana, Maintaining a Vehicle to Facilitate Drug Activity, Resisting a Public Officer and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. David Stilley was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Murray was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond. Stilley was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $300 secured bond.

On January 3, 2012, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit executed a search warrant at 126 Vermont Avenue in Washington. The search warrant stemmed from Investigators in the Drug Unit conducting controlled purchases of both marijuana and cocaine from the residence. The Drug Unit arrested Ronald Karl Bullock Jr., age 21, of 122 Concord Drive Greenville and Edward Rashad Bullock, age 29, of 126 Vermont Avenue Washington. As a result of the search warrant Investigators seized digital scales containing cocaine residue, drug packaging material, a .22 Caliber pistol and over $1,700 in currency.

Ronald Karl Bullock Jr. was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Maintaining a Dwelling to Facilitate Drug Activity, Possession of Cocaine, two Counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Firearm by Felon. Edward Rashad Bullock was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Maintaining a Dwelling to Facilitate Drug Activity, Possession With Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Possession of a Firearm by Felon, two counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana and four counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Ronald Bullock Jr. was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond. Edward Bullock was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $35,000 secured bond.

On December 28, 2011, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fraud that occurred at a business on Highway 17 South in Vanceboro, NC. According to the report, a recycling business was sold stolen metal. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews.

As a result of the investigation, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging David Lawrence Bryan, age 24, of Foster Road in Greenville and Joseph Scott Vick, age 26, of Alvin Road in Grimesland with two (2) counts each of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses.

On December 16, 2011, Bryan turned himself in at the Beaufort County Magistrate’s Office and was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond set by Magistrate David Curtis. Vick was served by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office while he was incarcerated in the Pitt County Detention Center on unrelated charges. Vick was held on an additional $7,500 secured bond set by a Pitt County Magistrate.

On December 24, 2011, Patrol Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a Crime Stoppers tip that drug activity was occurring at a home on VOA Road in Washington, NC. Deputies learned one of the suspects was on probation and contact was made with the suspect’s Probation Officer. Deputies responded to the area and conducted surveillance on the residence. Deputies later assisted Probation Officers with a search of the probationer’s residence, and over sixty dosage units of prescription pain medication were discovered.

As a result of the search, Corporal Thomas Salinas applied for and obtained warrants charging Jenny Rose Jordan, age 29, and Enrique Garcia-Rodriquez, age 38, both of VOA Road in Washington, NC with Maintaining a Vehicle or Dwelling Place To Sell a Controlled Substance, Possession With Intent To Manufacture Sell or Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession With Intent To Manufacture Sell or Deliver Schedule III Controlled Substance, Possession With Intent To Manufacture Sell or Deliver Schedule IV Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jordan and Garcia-Rodriquez were transported to the Magistrate’s Office and brought before Magistrate David Curtis. Both subjects were held on a $15,000 secured bond.

     On January 1, 2012, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Beaufort County Detention Center in reference to a Drug Offense. Once inside the Detention Center, Deputies made contact with Detention Officers and discovered an inmate was in possession of illegal narcotics. The inmate had just presented himself at the Detention Center to serve jail time as part of a prior conviction. During a search performed by Detention Officer Nicholas Bowman, baggies of marijuana were found concealed in the waistband of a pair of boxer shorts the inmate was wearing. Match strikers were also discovered.

          Sergeant Jeremy Hewitt reviewed the evidence and obtained a warrantcharging Santez Rico Keys, age 28, of North Pierce Street in Washington,  NC with Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Prison/Jail Premises and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Keys was brought before Magistrate E. Holmes and held on a $15,000 secured bond.
